Two pilots missing as Pawan Hans helicopter crashes near Bombay High
Navy and Coast Guard rescue teams were formed to look for them after the chopper sent a distress signal minutes before falling into the sea.
A Pawan Hans helicopter crashed near Bombay High on Wednesday evening, and its two pilots went missing. The Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard have both formed rescue teams to look for them. They found debris from the chopper on Thursday morning, India Today reported. However there was no sign of the pilots yet. Union Aviation Minister Mahesh Sharma said operations were underway, but the government would release a statement only after they were completed, ANI reported.
Officials said the helicopter crashed about two nautical miles away from the SHQ oil platform in Bombay High, the offshore oil field where the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation carries out its operations. The helicopter had sent out a distress signal to maritime officials seconds before crashing, The Indian Express reported.
