G20 summit: Economic growth, refugee crisis, terror discussed on final day
World leaders endorsed India's concerns about the late implementation of IMF reforms and vowed to step up intelligence sharing measures.
The G20 summit in Turkey ended with leaders of the world’s 20 biggest economies pledging to use all policy tools to address uneven economic growth. The countries at the summit endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern over delays in implementation of International Monetary Fund reforms, which were aimed at giving more voting power to developing economies. They also discussed building a global culture of intolerance towards corruption, PTI reported.
The world leaders noted the scale of the European migrant crisis and said that all countries need to share the burden, including refugee resettlement and humanitarian aid, and emphasised the importance of finding a political solution. A statement issued at the end of the summit also said the countries involved would work towards lifting global GDP by 2%, and would implement the G20 Anti-Corruption Action Plan 2015-2016.
The statement also reflected India’s concern over climate change. India has been pressing for a convention on climate change, which has to be adhered to within the United Nations framework. Reuters reported that leaders at the summit agreed to step up border controls and aviation security in the wake of the Paris terror attacks.
