Arvind Kejriwal says CBI was looking for DDCA files in which Arun Jaitley is named
The agency had earlier issued a statement saying that it had targeted the office of Rajendra Kumar, the principal secretary to the chief minister.
The Central Bureau of Information on Tuesday issued a statement saying that "reports from certain quarters regarding a search in Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's office are "completely baseless", and that propaganda should not be allowed to impede their investigation. Kejriwal however, insisted that it was his office that was being searched and dragged finance minister Arun Jaitley into the day's allegations. "Which file was CBI looking for in my office? DDCA files in which Arun Jaitley is in dock. I was about to order a commission of enquiry," Kejriwal tweeted.
The CBI maintained that they had obtained a court warrant and were raiding 14 locations in Delhi and UP in connection with corruption charges against principal secretary Rajendra Kumar. On Tuesday evening, members of the agency took Kumar to its Delhi headquarters for questioning.
Earlier in the day, finance minister Arun Jaitley had told the Rajya Sabha that Kejriwal was not the target of the CBI raid at the Delhi Secretariat. Jaitley said that the raid was related to corruption charges against an officer in the Delhi government.
The CBI had also issued a statement earlier saying that it had raided the Kumar's office. The agency alleged he had abused his official position by favouring a particular firm and giving it tenders from Delhi government departments, reported ANI.
Kejriwal, however, had dismissed the claims, saying the finance minister and the investigative agency were lying. He said in a tweet, "My own office files are being looked into to get some evidence against me." He added, "If [the] CBI had any evidence against Rajendra [Kumar], why didn't they share it with me? I would have acted against him."
The Opposition in the Rajya Sabha also shouted slogans against the Centre and forced three adjournments of the House. The members alleged an "attack on the federal structure" and an "undeclared Emergency" in the country, reported PTI.
While the BJP demanded an apology from Kejriwal, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the CBI's actions were "unacceptable".
Kejriwal had also laid the blame on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the raid was politically motivated.
PTI reported that a team of CBI officials went to the Delhi Secretariat, which houses the office of Kejriwal and other ministers, on Tuesday morning and conducted the raid on the third floor of the building. Kejriwal's office is located on this floor.
