RSS wants schools in metros to run for 12 hours so students have extra time to learn Sanskrit
Members of the Sangh's education wing said children from middle school onwards should avoid the 'assistance of foreign words'.
A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh wing has suggested that schools in metropolitan cities should run for 12 hours so that children get time to learn more languages, reported The New Indian Express. The proposal, prepared by Vidya Bharati, the education wing of the RSS, also said that students should learn Sanskrit from the middle-school level so that they do not need “the assistance of foreign words”.
Longer hours will also help students spend more time on extracurricular activities such as dance, sports, drawing and music. However, the proposal added that "if school timings are extended, classes cannot have both girls and boys together".
The RSS wing submitted the proposal to the Human Resource Development Ministry after the government invited suggestions for the government's new education policy. The RSS and its affiliates have asserted that the new policy should focus on “Indianisation of education”.
According to Vidya Bharati, in metro cities, where both parents are working, schools should run from 7.30 am to 7.30 pm. It has also suggested a biometric attendance system for teachers and CCTV cameras in classrooms.
