The Delhi High Court has rejected a petition seeking cancellation of JNU Students' Union President Kanhaiya Kumar's interim bail, reported IANS. Two petitions were filed against the student leader alleging that he had violated conditions on which he was given bail by delivering speeches that were "anti-national" after his release on March 2. While granting him bail, the court had told him "not participate actively or passively in any activity which may be termed as anti-national".

The court adjourned the hearing to April 28 after Delhi Police said it will verify whether Kanhaiya violated his bail conditions. The Delhi government has also informed the court that it was not in favour of cancelling Kumar's bail. "If you [petitioners] have any grievance you bring it to the notice of police... State and central government both are looking into it," Justice Suresh Kait said.

The petition had said that through his speech and sloganeering, Kumar "willfully and deliberately violated the conditions imposed on him by the court". It had urged the court to cancel his interim bail at the earliest "to minimise future damage to the reputation of India and also to restore the faith of the citizenry".
