Election officials in Kerala’s Ernakulam district plan to draw in more voters with selfie booths at polling stations and gift coupons for first-time electors. The Times of India reported that officials are finalising plans for these with district collectors, and hope they will be implemented. An election official told the newspaper that a poster with the symbol of the Election Commission will be put up at the photo booths where voters can take their selfies.
Ernakulam district has around 54,000 first-time voters and more than 24 lakh electors, though figures will vary till the lists are finalised on April 22. The district recorded 84% voter turnout in municipal elections held in November last year. The state goes to polls on May 16.
