Raees: Shah Rukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar sued for defamation by former underworld don Abdul Latif's son
In the Rs 101-crore suit, Mushtaq Sheikh claims the film projects his father in the wrong light and could bring disrepute to his family.
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, his wife Gauri Khan and actor Farhan Akhtar were issued notices by an Ahmedabad court on Thursday in connection with a Rs 101-crore defamation suit filed against the film Raees by former underworld don Abdul Latif’s son Mushtaq Sheikh. He has sought a stay on the release of the movie starring Khan, claiming that the film projects his father, who had “high reputation” in society, in the wrong light, The Times of India reported.
Among others who were issued notices were director Rahul Dholakia, producer Ritesh Sidhwani and three film-making companies. Sheikh also wants promos and trailers of the film barred from being aired and news articles on the movie banned from being published. Raees could bring disrepute to his family, the petitioner claimed, adding that the director, writer, actor and producer, who had said they would portray Latif correctly, had not stayed true to their word.
