Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM barred from contesting civic polls in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra Election Commission cancelled its registration as a state political party for failing to submit details of its income and funding.
Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has been barred from contesting civic elections in Maharashtra, NDTV reported. Its registration as a state political party was cancelled by the Maharashtra Election Commission for failing to submit details of its income and funding, according to ANI.
In its first election in Pune, the party planned to contest the Pune Municipal Corporation bypolls, which is scheduled for November 1. The AIMIM chief of western Maharashtra, Anjum Inamdar, said the party will take part in the 2017 civic polls in Pune. The bypoll was necessitated after a Shiv Sena corporator was disqualified for providing the Election Commission with a fake Other Backward Caste certificate.
