Kerala will be declared an open defecation-free state on November 1, which is also the state's formation day, reported PTI. The Left Democratic Front government plans to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the function that will take place in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Pinarayi Vijayan government issued a statement that confirmed the Cabinet's decision taken on Thursday. The state government is constructing at least 1.90 lakh toilets in 941 gram panchayats.
The move is part of the state's sanitation programme, launched in line with the prime minister's Swachh Bharat campaign. According to the government, 35% of the work was completed, and the rest will be done by November.
