A man walked 6 km with his daughter's body in Odisha on Friday after the ambulance they were travelling in asked them to get off midway upon learning that the seven-year-old has died, reported NDTV. The girl died on her way from Mithali hospital to Malkangiri district hospital.

Her father, Dinabandhu Khemudu, said, "The driver asked us to get down from the ambulance as soon as he came to know about the girl’s death on the way." When locals saw him and his wife carry the corpse, they approached the block development officer and medical authorities who arranged another vehicle for the family, according to Hindustan Times.

Malkangiri district collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy said, "It was totally illegal and criminal negligence on the part of the driver. Stringent action will be taken against persons responsible for the incident." He said he has ordered a probe into the incident. He added that the local administration has provided financial aid to the family.

This comes on days after a man had to walk 10 km carrying his wife’s body because he was not given a vehicle from the district hospital in Bhawanipatna. The incident took place on August 25.
