Suspected militants killed five police personnel and two bank officials while they decamped with a cash-loaded vehicle from a bank in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, PTI reported on Monday. The assailants also took five self-loading rifles belonging to the security personnel.

The attackers opened fire while the police personnel were in the van. South Kashmir Deputy Inspector General SP Pani said the van was dispensing cash to local branches in the area. The incident took place when the vehicle was on its way to a bank in the village of Pumbai area near Srinagar, reported Hindustan Times.

On April 28, security forces had foiled an attempt by militants to rob a bank in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. They managed to arrest one of the rebels as well.
