The toll in a terror attack on a Shitte mosque in Kabul on Friday rose to 30, Reuters reported. The Islamic State had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Interior Ministry spokesperson Najib Danish confirmed the attack on Imam Zaman Mosque and said Police Special Unit were deployed at the spot. The police said more than a 100 people were rescued. Several others were injured and were provided medical aid.

The bombings took place soon before Friday prayers at the mosque, which is located in a busy area in the city. The attack lasted around five hours, reports said.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani in a statement condemned the attack and called it a crime against the people of the country.
