The Haryana Police on Friday summoned 45 members of the Dera Sacha Sauda to question them about the violence that followed the conviction of their chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case, PTI reported.

The 45-member committee, which includes Dera headquarters chairperson Vipassana and vice chairperson PR Nain, is accused of planning the violence in Panchkula and other places that left at least 30 people dead and more than 250 injured.

On Friday, the Panchkula Police also claimed that Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was the handler of cash in the Sirsa-headquartered outfit, the Hindustan Times reported. The police said they have evidence that she distributed Rs 1.25 crore among a few outfit members to incite the violence in Panchkula. “We have evidence, including recovery of Rs 24 lakh from one of the dera followers, that clearly indicated that money used to incite violence was routed through her,” Police Commissioner AS Chawla said, according to the newspaper.

Their plan was to help the dera chief escape, said Chawla. He said that the dera members had thought Ram Rahim Singh would be taken to the Ambala jail, “but their plan failed as he was directly taken to the Rohtak jail”.

Honeypreet Insan was arrested in Punjab on October 3, and sent to six-day police remand. She is facing charges of inciting violence after Singh’s conviction and sedition for allegedly plotting to help him escape. On Thursday, the Panchkula police commissioner had said Honeypreet Insan was no cooperating with the investigators.
