Kerala: 14 injured after bomb hurled at Left party march in Kannur
The CPI(M) alleged that the BJP, which has been conducting its Jan Raksha Yatra in the state, was responsible for the attack.
Nine workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and five policemen were injured after a crude bomb was hurled at a party procession in Kerala’s Kannur district on Sunday night.
The party accused that the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been conducting its Jan Raksha Yatra in the state, of being responsible for the attack. A police contingent was sent to Panoor municipality, where the attack took place, The Indian Express reported.
The injured were admitted to a hospital in Thalassery and are in stable condition, the police said.
Kannur has been the hotbed of political clashes in Kerala. According to the police, there were 69 political murders in the district between 2000 and 2016, with 31 victims from the Sangh and 30 from the Left party.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) members said they had organised the march after campaign materials for an upcoming party meeting were destroyed and an attack on a party office. After Sunday night’s bomb attack, the CPI(M) called for a hartal in Panoor on Monday.
On October 3, BJP National President Amit Shah had claimed that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was responsible for the political clashes in the state.
