Apple Music on Wednesday said it will open two Mac Labs at composer AR Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory in Chennai and the institute’s upcoming campus in Mumbai. At the Mac Labs, students will be taught how to create music using Apple’s Logic Pro X, a music composing app.

Eddy Cue, the senior vice president of Apple’s internet software and services, met Rahman in Mumbai, where he announced that Apple Music will also help fund 10 full-time musical scholarships for students from underprivileged backgrounds.

Rahman founded the KM Music Conservatory to teach the art of Indian and Western music and music technology. On Twitter, the Oscar-winner said he had been a “loyal Logic Pro user for 20 years” and was “excited to be on this journey together with Apple Music”.

Apple Music has been trying to expand its reach and visibility in India, where it faces competition from home-grown streaming services such as Saavn and Gaana.

In September, it announced a collaboration with Radio City 91.1 FM, which became the first Indian radio network to tie up with Apple to offer its listeners curated playlists with more regional songs. In 2016, Apple Music tied up with taxi aggregator Ola to provide music on the in-car audio system.
