Telangana: TDP leader Revanth Reddy resigns, may join Congress
Reports said Reddy, who is an accused in a cash-for-vote scam, had complained of being sidelined in the party.
Telugu Desam Party leader Revanth Reddy resigned as an MLA on Saturday. He also stepped down from all party posts, The Hindu reported.
Reddy went to Vijayawada to meet his party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to discuss his exit from the party unit in Telangana, The Indian Express reported. He, however, returned to Hyderabad without meeting Naidu, but submitted his resignation letter to the chief minister’s office.
It is not yet clear why Reddy stepped down, but reports said he had complained of being sidelined in the party. Reddy may join the Congress next, The Hindu reported. “People in Telangana are longing for political realignment,” he said in his resignation letter.
Reddy is an accused in a cash-for-vote scam. The Telangana Anti-corruption Bureau had arrested him after he was caught in 2015 allegedly trying to bribe nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson.
