The 22-year-old actor was travelling from Malad to Goregaon around 4.30 am when the accident took place, the police said.
Bhalerao may have been leaning out the door and could have lost his grip when the train gained speed, the Hindustan Times quoted Borivali Government Railway Police officials as saying.
Senior Police Inspector Shailendra Dhiwar said Bhalerao tried to catch a running Churchgate local, fell off the train and hit a signal pole, according to DNA.
Bhalerao shot to fame as a child actor on the television series Kunku. He has also acted in several Marathi shows such as Tu Majha Sangati, Nakushi and Jyotiba Phule. He had also worked in a Marathi film Barayan, which was released recently.
