Swedish musician Avicii dies at 28
His publicist confirmed he died on Friday in Muscat.
Swedish electronic dance music star and DJ Avicii died on Friday at the age of 28. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” his publicist Diana Baron said in a statement, Billboard reported. He was “found dead” in Muscat, Oman, she said. “The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
The music star stopped performing live in 2016 because of health problems, Variety reported. His final live performance was in Ibiza on August 28, 2016. According to the report, he suffered from several problems including “acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking”. His gallbladder and appendix were removed in 2014.
Avicii released his debut studio album True in 2013. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award twice – for Sunshine, with David Guetta, in 2012, and for his song Levels in 2013.
