Unnao rape case: BJP MLA moved to Sitapur jail after complainant appeals in High Court
Kuldeep Singh Sengar was moved out from Unnao jail after the woman said she felt threatened.
Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is accused of raping a teenager in 2017 in Uttar Pradesh, was shifted to Sitapur jail from Unnao jail on Tuesday, IANS reported. Shashi Singh, who is a co-accused in the case, has also been sent to Sitapur jail.
Sengar was shifted after the complainant’s appeal in the Allahabad High Court alleging that she felt threatened. She told the High Court that while she was satisfied with the Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry, she had doubts about the role of the police and alleged that the jailed legislator had a free run of the prison, reported NDTV.
Atul Singh, brother of Kuldeep Singh Sengar, and four other co-accused are still lodged in Unnao jail.
The teenager has accused Sengar and some of his aides of raping her in June 2017. On April 8, she tried to commit suicide outside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath’s house. Her father, who was in judicial custody after he got into a fight with the MLA’s brother, died on April 9.
