Three people were killed in floods in as many districts in Assam on Wednesday, taking the toll in flood-related incidents in the state to 31. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority said in a report that at least 144 villages are still inundated. However, the flood situation in the state improved on Wednesday, PTI reported.

Over 68,000 people have been affected by the flood in Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Dhemaji, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar districts. Nearly 44,000 people have been hit by the floods in Karimnagar itself, the report said, adding that Jia Bharali river is flowing above the danger mark in Sonitpur district.

The disaster management authority said it is running 53 relief camps and distribution centres in four districts, where over 16,000 people have taken shelter.

Last week, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced a Rs 100-crore package for relief and rehabilitation in flood-affected areas of Barak Valley.
