The prices of petrol and diesel rose in the four metropolitan cities for the fifth straight day on Monday, the Indian Oil Corporation said. Petrol now costs Rs 76.36 per litre in Delhi, up from Rs 76.13 on Sunday. In Mumbai, petrol price is Rs 83.75 per litre, up from Rs 83.52, while it costs Rs. 79.25 in Chennai – it cost Rs 79.01 on Sunday – and Rs 79.03 in Kolkata, up from Rs 78.8.

The current diesel price in New Delhi is Rs 68.07 per litre, up from Rs 67.86 on Sunday. It costs Rs 72.23 per litre in Mumbai – up from Rs 72 – and Rs 70.62 in Kolkata, up from Rs 70.41. In Chennai, the revised diesel price is Rs 71.85, 25 paise more than its cost on Sunday.

Last week, fuel prices increased for the first time in 37 days. Petrol prices have been cut 22 times since May 29, and diesel rates 18 times, after both hit all-time highs earlier that month.

State-run oil marketing companies Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum revise prices every day at 6 am.
