Australia: Teenager accused of killing Indian student charged with murder
Jamie Lee Dolheguy was arrested for attacking 25-year-old Maulin Rathod at her home in Sunbury on July 24.
An 18-year-old girl in Australia was charged with murder on Monday for fatally attacking an Indian student she met via a dating application, reported PTI. Jamie Lee Dolheguy was arrested for attacking 25-year-old Maulin Rathod at her home in Sunbury on July 24. Rathod, a student, succumbed to his injuries the next day at a hospital in Melbourne.
Dolheguy sat impassively as she appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court, via a video link from custody, reported The Age. After her arrest, she was charged with attempted murder, intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing serious injury. These charges still stand but could be removed before her next court appearance on November 19.
In a statement on Friday, the consulate general of India in Melbourne said they were in constant touch with Rathod’s family back home as well as the Australian authorities. “Considering the unusual circumstances surrounding the tragic death, the Australian authorities would need to complete extra-legal formalities before the mortal remains are released, and hence the transportation of the mortal remains of Late Maulin back to India may take slightly longer time,” it said.
