The Bihar Police on Friday arrested three men for their alleged role in the murder of an under-secretary rank officer in Patna on August 14 near the state Assembly building, PTI reported. The arrests were made within the jurisdiction of the Patna Secretariat Police Station.

A police officer identified the accused as jeweller Baikunth from Bhojpur district, Shravan and Sunny. While Shravan and Sunny allegedly stole jewellery and cash amounting to Rs 40,000 after the murder, Baikunth is believed to have bought the jewels.

Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said four people committed the crime. “The police have arrested three persons in connection with murder of [State Planning Department] Under Secretary Rajeev Kumar,” Maharaj said, adding that they are searching for two other accused, identified as Rahul and Krishna.

Maharaj said the police have recovered Rs 28,000 and four pistols from the accused. Fourteen police officials, including the inspector in-charge of the police station, were suspended after the murder.

Maharaj said Shravan and Sunny have committed petty thefts before.
