Two films from the past and the very distant past are hoping to make the best of an extended weekend. There are no Hollywood releases to challenge either of them.
Rustom Akshay Kumar dons a naval uniform and puts on his most Parsi face to play Rustom Pavri, who kills the lover (Arjun Bajwa) of his philandering wife (Ileana D’Cruz). Loosely based on the notorious Nanavati case from 1959, Tinu Suresh Desai’s movie is being billed as a cautionary tale about infidelity, with the potential to save marriages.
Mohenjo Daro Ashutosh Gowariker reaches back over 4,000 years for his new movie. The Indus Valley Civilisation is the backdrop for the romance between the farmer Sarman (Hrithik Roshan) and the princess Chaani (Pooja Hegde). Kabir Bedi and Arunoday Singh are among the politicians who scheme to both keep the lovers apart as well as the Mohenjo-Daro settlement under their control.
