Yash Raj Films has had a slow 2017, with its releases Meri Pyaari Bindu and Bank Chor tanking at the box office. The film studio seems unfazed, and has announced new projects even as its ambitious 2018 production Thugs of Hindostan, starring Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, gets underway.
Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma will pair up for the first time in Sui Dhaaga Made in India; Ishaqzaade duo Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor will reunite in Dibakar Banerjee’s Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. Yash Raj Films will also formally launch Aadar Jain, another scion of the Kapoor family, alongside Anya Singh in an upcoming movie.
After the Akshay Kumar-starrer Toiler: Ek Prem Katha, the Sharma-Dhawan starrer is yet another film inspired by a Narendra Modi government policy, this time Make in India. The film will be made by the team behind Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), writer-director Sharat Katariya and producer Maneesh Sharma. Shooting is scheduled to begin in January 2018, and the movie will be released on October 2.
“From Gandhiji to Modiji, our country’s leaders have always endorsed the mantra of Made in India,” Dhawan declared through a press release. “With Sui Dhaaga, I am proud to take their message to millions of movie lovers in a manner that is entertaining and relevant.”
Also announced is Dibakar Banerjee’s latest collaboration with YRF after Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015). Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra get back together in the thriller Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. “This story could happen to any of us in contemporary India,” said a press statement. “But it happens to Sandeep and Pinky. Two more unlikely protagonists in one film are unimaginable. They are united in one thing only. Their mistrust, suspicion and hate for each other.”
Aadar Jain, who is the son of Rishi Kapoor’s sister Rima Jain, will most likely make his debut in Habib Faisal’s next film with Anya Singh. Faisal had previously introduced Arjun Kapoor in Ishaqzaade.
