There is no change in the release date of Shankar’s heavily anticipated science fiction drama 2.0, according to the movie’s producer. Lyca Productions Creative Head Raju Mahalnigam told Scroll.in, “As of now, the release date of the film is January 25. No change in that.”
The sequel to Enthiran (2010) stars Rajinikanth as the humanoid robot Chitti, Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar as the antagonist. The movie is supposed to be released a day before the Akshay Kumar starrer Padman, inspired by low-cost sanitary manufacturer Arunachalam Muruganantham, When Padman, directed by R Balki, moved its release date from April 13 to January 26, there was speculation that the announcement had been made with the knowledge that 2.0 had been pushed.
Tamil industry trackers soon announced a new date for the movie: April 13, which coincides with the new year in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Mahalingam asserted that 2.0 will keep its date and will be targetting at least 10,000 screens, making it one of the widest releases after Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017). “The movie will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and in foreign languages after the Indian release,” he said. 2.0 will also be released in 3D, which won’t leave aside too many screens for Padman, the first solo Akshay Kumar release of 2018.
