The first teaser for Mammootty-starrer Peranbu features the Malayalam superstar as a pensive father trying to experience life from the perspective of his daughter who lives with a physical disability.
Titled Chapter One: Nature is Ruthless, the teaser was released during the film’s audio launch in Chennai on Sunday. Set in a wooden cabin perched near a lake, the two-minute clip shows Mammootty’s character mimicking his daughter Paapa’s (Sadhana) physical condition, while the narrator says, “All these years I was worried why paapa is not like other children. But when I tried walking like her I realised comparing one person with another is brutal.”
Peranbu has been directed by Ram, who won the National Film Award for his Tamil movie Thanga Meenkal (2013). Produced by Sri Rajalakshmi Films, the Tamil-Malayalam bilingual also features Anjali and marks the acting debut of trans model Anjali Ameer.
It was premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam on January 27, where it was nominated for the NETPAC award for the best Asian feature film. Peranbu had its Asian premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival on June 17.
No release date for Peranbu has been announced yet.
