Dhanush-starrer Vada Chennai will be released on October 17, the actor announced on Twitter on Thursday. Directed and written by Vetri Maaran, Vada Chennai (which translates to North Chennai) stars Dhanush as a national-level carom player who gets embroiled in a turf war. The Tamil drama has been produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films and Lyca Productions. The cast also includes Aishwarya Rajesh, Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani, Ameer, Daniel Balaji, Kishore, Radha Ravi and Karunas.

Vetri Maaran has reportedly planned Vada Chennai as the first part of a trilogy. The film was first announced in 2011 and after undergoing many delays and cast changes, finally went into production in 2015.

This is Vetri Maaran’s third film with Dhanush after Polladhavan (2007) and Aadukalam (2011), for which Dhanush won the National award for Best Actor. The gangster drama also won five other National Film Awards, including Best Director and Best Screenplay for Vetrimaaran. Dhanush and Vetrimaaran have also co-produced M Manikandan’s Kaaka Muttai (2015) and Vetrimaaran’s Visaaranai (2016).
