Those applying to the RRB’s CEN 01/2018 recruitment drive for ALP and technician posts will have to give a computer-based test (CBT) as the first stage of the recruitment.
Exam date and admit card
The first stage CBT of the RRB exam for recruitment for ALPs and technicians will begin on August 8th, 2018, and the admit card for the exam is scheduled to be released four days prior to the exam date scheduled for candidates.
Candidates will have to login using their credentials through links on the official regional websites to know their exam city and exam date and to download their exam admit card or call letter. SC and ST candidates will be able to download their Travel Authority as well.
RRB exam pattern
The RRB ALP and technician CBT exam 2018 is a 60-minute test paper (80 minutes for eligible PWD candidates accompanied by a scribe) with 75 multiple choice questions. There will be negative marking (of 1/3rd mark) for each wrong answer.

However, even though the RRB has given the above as the section-wise exam pattern, the official Railways board notification says that the section-wise distribution is only indicative and that there may be some variation in the actual question papers.
The RRB had released notifications for the vacancies in its 2018 recruitment drive, among which are the Group C ALP and technicians as well as Group D posts. Under the RRB’s group C and D recruitment drive, a total of 26,502 posts are available – 17,673 posts for assistant locomotive pilots (ALPs) and 8,829 posts for technicians.
The recruitment drive was in the news recently because of the number of applicants it attracted. More than 2 crore candidates had applied for around 89,000 positions, and many candidates were overqualified for the positions.
