The Board of Control for Cricket in India media rights contract with Star India has been extended by 15 days to accommodate India women’s ODI series against England, according to a report by The Times of India.

Star will continue the live broadcast for the three One Day International matches to be held in Nagpur April 6, 9 and 12.

According to the TOI report, the decision to extend the contract came after the deadline for the submission of media rights bid was extended from March 27 to April 3. Star’s original contract was to end by March 31.

The report also said that had Star not been persuaded to extend it, the England series might not have an official broadcaster.

Earlier, the women’s Twenty20 tri-series featuring India, Australia and England had been rescheduled to ensure live broadcast for all the matches. The series was originally to be held in Mumbai from March 22 to April 3, but will now end by March 31.

At the end of February, BCCI has invited bids for the media rights for the next five years – from 1 April 2018 till 31 March 2023. The online auction was to be held at the end of this month.
