Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh appeared before a Bhopal court on Saturday in connection with a recruitment scam in the state Secretariat between 1993 and 2003, while he was chief minister. On Friday, Singh was issued a non-bailable arrest warrant when he did not appear before the court after a 169-page chargesheet was filed in the case. The Rajya Sabha member was summoned by the Madhya Pradesh Police to attend the court proceedings.

Singh had been interrogated by the police regarding the case last year. He told the police that all recruiting done in the Secretariat during his tenure had been done according to prescribed rules, and with the approval of the state cabinet. Seven other accused people in the case, including members of the Secretariat, were granted bail on Friday after they furnished a personal security bond of Rs 30,000 each.
