Interpol on Tuesday issued a fresh Red Corner Notice against Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar (pictured above) and his brother Abdul Rauf for their alleged involvement in the attack on the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot, ANI reported. The international police organisation is also in the process of issuing a Red Corner Notice – considered equivalent to an international arrest warrant – against JeM suspect Shahid Latif, who was the main handler in the Pathankot attack, officials in the National Investigation Agency said.

The development comes after China had opposed India’s bid to have the United States issue sanctions banning Azhar and deeming him a terrorist, saying the case did not meet the requirements of the Security Council. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had taken up the matter with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during a meeting on April 18 in Moscow.

A special NIA court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Azhar, Rauf and Latif, as well as against Kashif Jan, another handler in the Pathankot attack. Latif was reportedly let off by the Manmohan Singh government in 2010 as a “goodwill gesture” to mend ties with Pakistan.
