Jammu and Kashmir: One soldier killed in alleged ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Poonch
The Indian Army said Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked firing around 7 am.
One Indian Army soldier was killed and three were injured in cross-border shelling in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday, ANI reported.
The Pakistani Army began to fire small arms and mortars around 7 am, after which Indian soldiers of the 4 Maratha Light Infantry regiment fired back, the Army claimed. The injured soldiers were airlifted to a military hospital in Udhampur, Global News Service news agency reported.
The soldier who was killed was identified as Sepoy Mustapure Shubham Suryakant, a resident of Parbhani, Maharashtra.
There have been several cases of alleged Pakistani ceasefire violations over the past few months. On March 19, India summoned Pakistan’s Deputy High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah to lodge a protest against the death of civilians in alleged unprovoked firing by Pakistani forces.
