Man arrested in Bihar for allegedly threatening Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani
Accused Rahul Paswan has admitted that the number belongs to him, but denied making any call to the legislator.
The Gujarat Police arrested a man from Bihar for allegedly threatening independent MLA Jignesh Mevani, The Indian Express reported on Monday. Rahul Paswan was taken into custody from Koili village in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district.
Mevani’s assistant Kaushik Parmar lodged a complaint on June 6 alleging that he had received threatening calls on a number registered under Mevani’s name.
An unidentified senior police officer told The Times of India that the caller, who identified himself as Rajveer Mishra, threatened to shoot Mevani. Parmar also received similar calls threatening to kill Mevani from other numbers where the caller identified himself as gangster Ravi Pujari.
“We tracked down the number to Koili village in Sitamarhi district of Bihar,” said Superintendent of Police (Banaskantha) BA Chavda. “The accused has admitted that the number belongs to him. However, he denies making any call to Mevani. He has also denied having any link with Ravi Pujari.”
