One student was killed and another injured in a shooting at a high school in the United States city of Birmingham in Alabama on Wednesday.

The incident sparked a brief lockdown at the Huffman High school. Police Chief Orlando Wilson told The Washington Post that the dead student was identified as a 17-year-old girl and another 17-year-old teen was injured.

“At this particular time, we are considering it accidental until the investigation takes us elsewhere,” the chief said. “It’s not a situation where someone from the outside came into the school.” However, he did not say if the suspected shooter was a student.

Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Lisa Herring said the administration will increase security at all its schools.

The shooting comes just three weeks after a 19-year-old gunman opened fire in a school in Florida’s Parkland on February 14, killing 17 people.
